The Jeremiad Official Guide To Successfully Achieving Your New Year's Resolutions

I know this to be true: the most success I've had in accomplishing things has come when I don't talk much about what I'm trying to do.

Calling your shot makes it that much harder. "I'm gonna lose 10 pounds" or "I'm gonna write a book"--you tell 40 people; by the time you've done all that talking, the energy and resolve to do it are kaput. It's like telling the universe what you expect to happen, then trying to sit back and watch. No-no, Bs and Gs -- it up to you, down to you, and pretty much only you.

In short, resolve to talk about your results, not your goals. It's way more satisfying.

I say this as most of my clothes are ceasing to fit, by the way. I sense a fad diet coming on.

i would agree that keeping big resolutions to oneself is the way to go. i've made that mistake too many times before where i've blabbed about things that never materialized.
